Community Service (CRJS 444)
This class focused on the use of human, social, and cultural capital along with service to help maintain the flow of the community ad with that decrease the presence of crime. This class was mostly hands on as it required the students to volunteer within the community for the period of the class. In addition to that, there were weekly reflections and a final paper to sum up the experience and the learned material.
I had an amazing time working with ForKids institute. ForKids helps homeless families to get back on their feet. They provide them with housing, skill training, education, and career development.
Fieldnotes
While working as a volunteer at ForKids Institute, I wrote a fieldnote entry every week explaining my experience.

Service Learning Reflection
Through this course, not only did I learn about the various types of capital, but I also learned the importance of helping out those in need and contributing ones time to maintain the needs of the community. Skills I developed through this course include communicating verbally with both the adults and the kids, and working in a team structure with the institution and the classroom teachers to best assist the kids.
